The Midnight Society Opening is an [[Improv Terms|improv opening]] inspired by the TV show "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" and as taught by Kate Zelensky:
1. **Get a suggestion of anything at all.**
2. **Make a Crescent of Doom (COD):**
- Players form a Crescent of Doom.
3. **Player 1:**
- A player starts by announcing they have a scary story to share.
- Provides the basic [[Improv Terms|premise]] of the story in a line or two.
4. **Story Building:**
- Other players add on to player 1's story.
- Everyone behaves as if this is the scariest story EVER.
5. **Scenic Moment:**
- Once the basic gist is established, a player steps out to make the story scenic.
- Presents a three to four-line scene, moving the action along.
6. **Back to COD:**
- Return to the Crescent of Doom.
- Another player tells us about another scary story based on the original [[Improv Terms|suggestion]].
7. **Repeat:**
- Three stories are told in total.
- After each scenic moment, remember to comment on the new details discovered.
8. **Closing:**
- At the end of the third detail discussion, everyone says together: "Submitted for the approval of the midnight society, we give you... (SUGGESTION)!"
