Q: What is love?
Katie: The absence of suffering. And in that absence of suffering, we become generous, because there is never a lack. Giving becomes receiving. It’s a way of living where there is never a sacrifice. It is the extreme opposite. So love is always fulfilling. It’s always full. And we really love ourselves, we love everyone we see. We are love, and there’s nothing we can do about that. Love is our nature. It’s what we are without our stories. When you’re shut down and frightened, the world seems hostile; when you love what is, everything in the world becomes the beloved. I am a lover of what is, not because I’m a spiritual person, but because it hurts when I argue with reality.
